(Due to a failure in the system {As in my brilliant system to write down all blog ideas when I think of them}, I’m taking you to one of my favorite memories. It occurred over a year ago when Evan was still a few weeks from turning 3.)
We sat around the table enjoying dinner, talking about how fun the Renaissance Faire was. The boys happily played with their food as they sampled some. I enjoyed the weight of my new fairy necklace as well as the yummy rotisserie chicken.
Evan: Daddy! I wanted the red dragon! But you wanted the blue one! So I got it for you!

Evan was referring to this awesome wooden shield we bought him at the faire. I had gone over to look at the jewelry when the husband took the boys to look at the wooden swords, which I had suggested for a souviner. As I returned with my package, I noticed Evan was lugging a wooden shield almost his size with a blue griffin rearing.
Me: Huh. I thought you would have picked out the red dragon. Seeing that you’re so proud of your Welsh heritage and all.
The husband: He wanted the blue one.
Me: You gave him a choice?
The husband: Uh-huh.
Evan: Mommy! Daddy bought me a shield and a sword!
Me: So what did you get Sean?
The husband: I was suppose to get Sean something? I’ll be back.
***
The husband: No, Evan. I wanted the red dragon. You wanted the blue one.
Evan: No, Daddy! I wanted the red dragon! You wanted the blue one!
The husband: No, I wanted the red one. You wanted the blue one.
Evan: No, you wanted the blue one! I wanted the red dragon!
The husband: No. I wanted the red one. You chose the blue.
Evan: No, I wanted the red one!
The husband: No, you wanted the blue one.
Evan: Daddy! I wanted the red dragon! You wanted the blue dragon!
The husband: No, Evan.
Me: The husband, you do realize you’re arguing with a two-year-old, right? About who wanted the red dragon shield? Does it really matter? Especially since we have the blue griffin, unless you want to go back tomorrow for the red dragon shield.
Pause.
The husband: Evan, that was very nice of you to pick out the blue dragon for me.

It’s just endless isn’t it? I can’t believe the debates I’ve had over complete stupidity…

I wish I lived in my kids’ reality. Because then I would be much less confused all day long.

We just took out little ones to a Renn Fest this summer. LittleMan still wears his prince/pirate shirt, and LittleBird gets in full regalia in the outfit my mom bought for her. I can’t wait to go again next year.
