Blessing

I like our church.  It’s a smaller church, a newer church, a liberal church.  They are understanding about small children.  “Relax.  God put the wiggle in small children.”  They are intelligent.  Any priest that tells the Descartes joke as part of his sermon is smart and funny.  And the priests are good with children.

Yesterday, because the cavalry wasn’t joining me, we went straight to the crying room.  Since we hadn’t been in a few weeks, the boys were out of practice.  Tornado A is at the stage where he just can’t sit still for more than five minutes, but the older boys knew better.  They lost half their privileges for the day, and I was contemplating a punishment where they just laid in bed all day.  But then it was communion time.

We happened to be in the priest’s line.  The older boys walked up with their arms across their chests, not talking, not laughing, not pushing.  Tornado A squirmed in my arms.  We got up to the priest.  He laid his hand on each of the older boys’ heads.

The Priest: May God bless you and slow you down.

Then he put his hand on Tornado A’s head.

The Priest: May God bless you, but nothing will slow you down.

I know, right?

LMAO. It’s so true. And I guess I don’t want them slowed down, really, but seriously, one day a week would be nice.

This was great. Brings back memories when my kids were little. My daughter stood up in the pew when she was about two and started singing All my ex’s livess in Texas by George Strait. I told her to sit dow and be quiet and she informed me and the congrgation that we needed some real music in that place. Everyone laughed but I wanted to crawl under the pew.

Naptimewriting~ I know *EXACTLY* how you feel.
    Jane~ He’s a pretty cool priest.
beth reed~ They say children help us live longer. Probably because moments like those stretch for eternity.
    ink~ 🙂
zee~ That he is. A crying room is a room sectioned off from the church that has glass windows (to watch the service) and speakers (to hear it), but it’s a sound proof room that allows parents to console babies or deal with toddlers. Older, bigger churches will have a seperate room. Smaller churches will have it combined with the foyer or at my church’s case, the chapel. Good, children-friendly churches discourage the use of crying rooms since they believe children are as God made them.
